The NBA Philippines Had Their Change Management and Creative Problem Solving Workshop in Crimson Hotel in Mactan
The Facilitators of CTFN were stoked up this month of May because we were about to conduct a team building with our most well-known client yet, that is---The NBA! Or to be precise, the marketing executives of the NBA Philippines; the people who made it possible for Filipinos to be up- to-date for the latest happenings in our all-time favorite sport.
These amazing people decided to come to Crimson Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu to relax and unwind for a bit, to indulged in the concept of escape, having to fill their hours of nothing but “sea breeze, incredible food, and maximum comfort.” Enjoy the sunny season together, so they can also have time to be bonded in a simple yet unique way.

They contacted Cebu Teambuilding Facilitators Network for very specific modules that they wanted to mix up with their team-bonding event. After getting their training objectives and knowing their expected outcome, we decided to give them a workshop that focuses on improving their team dynamics by getting them to bond as they take on challenges structure to bring about Change Management and Creative Problem Solving. These were the activities that we accomplished with them:
The Human Pinball
In this activity, the participants were asked to form a circle close to each other so that there won’t be any empty spaces between people. They were surprised and excited as I instructed them to spread their legs wide enough for a ball to go through. The instructions were given to them together as I introduced the materials, four balls of different sizes and color. The objective of the activity is to get the ball in through the other person’s legs by tapping it with your hand while also making sure that your legs are guarded from any in-coming ball. Much like a game of pinball.

In each time a ball goes through a person’s base, that person will have to step forward and tell information about himself that others did not know. For example, the common “one truth and a lie.” The purpose of the activity was obvious, that was to make everyone feel sociable and set the tone for the method of the workshop that is Play.
Helium Ring
In this activity, I warned the participants of the challenge it will bring upon them but that the purpose will be to show them what team-dynamics is all about. The objective of the activity was simply to bring down a hula-hoop from a starting point down until their small fingers can touch the ground, using only their fingers pointing forward, which they must keep in contact with the hoop at all times throughout the activity.

The task proved to be more complicated than it sounds, yet it was successful at making them boost their communication in order to bring the activity to a success.
The Knife Balance
This activity was designed to get them to think creatively, to get them to think outside of the box. In this activity, I divided the team into two, and each sub-team was given 3 sets of knifes and 4 sets of plastic cups. The first set of instruction was to put 3 of the cups on a flat surface, and make sure their distance from each other is the same length as the knifes. Now, with that set up, the challenge is to make the fourth cup suspend in the air using all the materials that were given to them.

Throughout this activity, the participants learned that if you keep doing the same thing over and over. You get the same result. And that the key to creative problem solving is to look at things in as many different perspectives as possible and simply to generate ideas, no matter how silly it sounds at first, then to give it a try.
The Pipeline
This was the last activity for the day. Here, they were asked to transport a ball from point A to point B, using only the pipelines given to them. The catch is that a player is restricted from travelling with his or her feet when the ball is on his or her pipeline.

There was no other way to do the activity except to work together.
Every now and then, a team evolves from one state to another, and this is why team-dynamics is not an easy thing to maintain. One day you’re performing, the next day you might find yourselves facing much bigger challenges than you ever had before. But then again, challenges are nothing but veiled opportunities. The key is always simple: Teamwork.

Nice! I've seen how this team worked in this teambuilding through the help of the facilitators. :D
