Nestle Philippines Sponsors Team Building Event for Chong Hua Hospital Surgeons

Holding the patient's hand as they go to sleep, having whispered "We'll take good care of you" as their eyes flutter to stillness, the personal remnant is still very much there as they begin, even as the person is covered in sterile green paper, exposing only the belly. It's the midline incision, especially the one in the upper belly, from breastbone to navel, that's the most intimate. To them, anyway. It's so direct, so frontal, so against the rules of personal space. Maybe even sexual. Because it's right into the middle of who they are, the thrust aimed where anyone, even a friend, would hunch away to protect himself; yet, here they are, purposefully slicing deep into the core, willing and able, allowed, invited, trusted, observed.

That must be how our participants feel every time they go to the operating table. But last Saturday, May 13, 2017, the doctors of the Surgery Department of Chong Hua Hospital had a chance to put their masks down via a team building program in Vistamar Beach Resort and Country Club with the Cebu Team Building Facilitators Network. Ranging from the least tenured, 3 year surgeons to the head of the Surgery Department who has been there for 39 years (can you believe that?!), they were able to cut through the activities with the precision and grace that only an adept surgeon could pull-off.

After each activity, during the debriefing, I never expected these people to be so open and so vocal about how hard their job is. The importance of life is really significant to a surgeon because they are quite literally holding life in the palm of their hands. During the climactic activity, we had them do the Positive Carousel. And with that, I was amazed at how close these people are to one another. 10 years of facilitating team building programs and it was just last weekend that i saw a very tight and close knit group which can really be called a family, a family in the surgery department of Chong Hua Hospital
