CTFN Does Petron Team Building a 2nd Time

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.” I advocate this idea as a facilitator and as a human being. Like how dancers practice in front of a mirror, for our team building programs we provide a specialized environment for our participants to act and observe how they act.  To further visualize it is the same as a play however they have to do the part of both as characters and director. Only the script is given which in a team building refers to as the challenges and tasks.

On the afternoon of 25 June 2016, Cebu Teambuilding Facilitators Network conducted a team building program for a Petron team held at Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel in Buyong, Mactan Island, Lapulapu City, Cebu, Philippines. This was the 2nd team building program engagement for the same Petron management team in the past 3 years. The 1st Petron team building program CTFN facilitated was in June 2014.

The team building program is designed to challenge the team and unwind. Here were the activities done on that day:

Chinese Handcuffs

The participants paired up and both were "handcuffed" with the handcuffs looped with the other. The objective is to unloop their handcuffs without removing it from their hands. This is a puzzle activity and they will have to rely on their visualization skills with a tinge of trial and error to accomplish the task. This is a good way to start the program because it can serve both as a GTKY activity and mental warm up.

Porcupine

They were given a set of nails and a box with a nail impaled on it. The task is to hang the nails on top of the impaled nail for two minutes without falling. The participants were divided into 2 groups each was given 30 minutes to come up with a strategy and come up with a plan on how to accomplish the task. This activity is a must sought for puzzle seekers and as a clue, it involves physics!

Moonball

Given a Beach ball, the participants were tasked to stop it from touching the ground for as long as they can. They only have to tap the ball and they cannot do it twice in a row. Each time they make a time record they were then challenged to break, a challenge they eagerly accepted. Huge amount of sweat were shed on this activity and they enjoyed doing the activity until the moon rose, literally.

Ball Ring

The challenge for this activity is to transfer a set of balls from the origin point to a cup at the end point. The balls must be placed on top of a ring, with strings attached on it, all throughout the transfer. They cannot directly touch the balls and they can only use the strings to control the ring. This was the most challenging activity of the program, added with the strong sea breeze and natural obstacles formed by the trees.

It was a challenging program for both facilitators and participants alike. A memory they can share together and a chance to put their team on a microscopic view that they can analyze and get observations from.  On that day they faced a storm of activities and survived telling the tales.
