Cebu Teambuilding Facilitators Network Goes to San Remigio for 2017 Strategic Planning
Strategic Planning and goal setting is an integral part of any organization. This enables teams to design and forecast their goals in within a certain time frame and help set expectations for the team in order to lead the organization in a unified direction. Strategic Planning can be a tough process especially if different individuals pitch in their ideas with their own set of plans and values that is why most organizations follow a structured flow of discussion in order to brainstorm ideas, set realistic goals and air out concerns in a systematic flow.
Villa Elisea: A Perfect Venue
The Cebu Teambuilding Facilitators Network had its annual strategic planning last December 27-28, 2016. This was an important day for the team in order to reflect its past achievements, discuss what the team did right, focus on their strengths and minimize its risks and failures for the upcoming months. The session was held at Villa Elisea at San Remigio, in one of the beach-side rest houses of one of CTFN’s affiliates, Philipp Chen Tan, who is also a blogger in his site – Chen Psych. The place is one of the untouched properties in Sam Remigio making the place filled with nature’s natural beauty and quiet. More than just a strategic planning session, the event also served as a team bonding moment, a stress-reliever, a year-end party, a Christmas celebration, and a welcoming of a new season or year party. It's never too bad to have a little fun while tackling serious organizational matters.

The day started with some stretching and relaxation at the rest house followed with a hearty lunch. After lunch, the team proceeded to one of the rooms to conduct its strategic planning. There was a short ice breaker done by Christopher Avila, to arouse the vigor of the team which proceeded to a SWOT Analysis. SWOT Analysis is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. SWOT Analysis is a useful technique for understanding the four elements that every business or organization face. It is particularly power since it presents a structured way to help brainstorm ideas and uncover opportunities as well as eliminate threats that the team might tackle.

The team was able to generate numerous statements when talking about the team’s strengths. This showed the team’s awareness of its top qualities and best characteristics. The discussion on the Weaknesses was more of an active discussion compared to the Strengths discussion. This allowed the whole team to be aware of the team or organization’s short comings. The team was then able to draw out Opportunities and Threats to discuss on upcoming challenges that affect the organization externally and how to minimize these threats as much as possible. Following the SWOT Analysis and discussion, was the formulation of goals and values. This allowed the team to reflect whether each CTFN affiliate's values and goals still match with the organization’s values and goals as well. When all of the facilitators have found a common ground, the discussion was noted and published on screen to show the commitment each affiliate will undertake. After several hours of active group discussions, presentations and planning, the entire team ended the planning session with a short sharing of their commitment to the organization.
In summary, the two days of planning allowed different members of the team to know more about each other as a team in terms of planning, foresight and vision setting. This made each individual reflect on the importance of each individual’s effort that complements the whole team and creates a momentum for the entire organization as it welcomes the New Year of 2017.
