The Mental Assassin Strikes in Cebu

“Psycho-ha daw ko, bai, bi?”

Here’s a topic widely discussed for more than millennia: mind reading. Can someone actually read minds? Psychology majors for this matter, at least once in their lifetime, were subjected to this annoying—but in fact, sensible—scrutiny on mind matters.

How about you, dear reader? Do you happen to take up psychology? Did you take up psychology because you want—or once wanted—to read minds? Were you infuriated each time a friend asks you over a bottle of beer, “Psycho-ha daw ko, bai, bi? Sige na, bai. Karon ra bitaw ni. Please.”

Or do you have that close friend who was a psychology major? Have you asked him that one slow, lazy afternoon at the school library to psycho-analyze you because “you want to understand yourself?”

How much thought have you given to this matter of mind reading? Life is not so much about understanding oneself as it is about understanding other people.

Mind reading is an interesting topic for a large number of people. So last 26 November 2016, for the first time ever, Cebu Teambuilding Facilitators Network proudly brought the celebrated Filipino mentalist Justin Piñon to Cebu to talk about Mentalism.

Justin Piñon is also known as the Mental Assassin

The Mental Assassin visited Cebu, carrying an aura similar to that of the fictional Sherlock Holmes. He seemed to see more things than most of us, and in a whole deeper sense at that.

“Now I See You, Bai: The Body Language Advantage”

Two sessions were held at Hyacinth Hall, JCenter Convention Center, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines: students (9AM-12NN) and working professionals (1PM-4PM). Both were a full house.

Body language is said to make up 80% of human communication—most of which are unconscious—and words composed only 20%. Reading one’s body language is more or less reading one’s mind.

The students’ session focused on reading nonverbal language and then proceeded on to the understanding negative body language and its conversion into positive ones. Students from many universities went to the event and enjoyed Piñon's lectures, esp. on body language and on the art of persuasion. They were all blown away by the mentalist’s demonstrations, for example guessing, all from one’s body language, the word one is thinking.

The working professionals’ session involved an advanced lecture on body language, such as Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques such as Mirroring and Positioning that help largely to their businesses. The event was open for everyone. Many non-psychology majors have attended.

At the event, the mentalist sold his hit book on body language. Justin Piñon wrote about the three facial gestures that have a huge effect on a person. Among the many topics included in the book were techniques on rapport building and on breaking down communication barriers. *All copies were sold out at the event.

The mentalist also talked about “his second coming” to Cebu this year. The next lecture will be more extensive, he said. Everyone in the audience jumped in excitement. They can’t wait for the next session.
